A Comprehensive Approach to Sustainable Weight Loss

Weight management is a good example of a health issue that requires a multi-level and individualised solution.

Nutritional Therapy for Weight Loss

My approach to weight management assumes that if you fully meet your body's health needs then it will naturally regulate itself both in terms of weight and appetite. That means providing it with the full range of nutrients it needs, avoiding harmful foods, and resolving underlying physiological imbalances (for example low thyroid function) that impair your metabolic rate.

My programme is designed to be sustainable and long-term. That means no going hungry and no calorie counting.

Mind-Body Skills for Weight Loss

"There is perhaps no psychological skill more fundamental than resisting impulse" - Daniel Goleman, Emotional Intelligence

If you've struggled with weight loss for any time you'll know that whatever diet you adopt you'll still encounter triggers and impulses to eat inappropriately. These may involve difficult emotions, stress or just old habits.

For weight loss to be sustainable in the long term, it can't come down to a will-power-versus-cravings struggle. Inevitably eating is tied to pleasure, so any changes you make need to be rewarding and enjoyable, to be sustainable. An important part of a comprehensive solution is the development of mind-body skills:

  • awareness of the body's feelings and sensations as messages
  • knowing how to respond effectively, to reduce uncomfortable feelings and emotions

I use NLP, biofeedback and other tools to help you build these skills. The goal is to feel in control of your mind and body, rather than that they control you.

eight keys to weight loss - free download

A 13-page report entitled 'Eight Keys for Sustainable Weight Loss' is available for download in the resources section of this website.

The report highlights potential obstacles to weight loss. The eight keys will collectively optimise your body's metabolic rate (calorie-burning capacity), and will regulate your appetite so that you can enjoy stable energy levels and freedom from craving.

In brief the eight keys are:

  1. Eat for your metabolic type.
  2. Boost the metabolic power of your mitochondria.
  3. Balance Insulin and Blood Sugar.
  4. Optimise brain chemistry for appetite control.
  5. Control stress and stress hormones.
  6. Optimise hormonal control of metabolic rate.
  7. Reduce inflammation.
  8. Optimise detoxification.
