About Nutritional Therapy
Nutritional Therapy applies the sciences of nutrition and health to optimise the
health of the individual. It encompasses both diet and the use of nutritional
supplements as medicines.
Based on a systems view of health called functional medicine, Nutritional Therapy
seeks to identify and correct underlying physiological imbalances rather than
immediate symptoms. Many chronic health problems such as depression, fatigue and
IBS have a wide range of causal factors, such as:
- hormonal imbalances
- neurotransmitter imbalances
- immune system imbalances
- poor digestion and absorption of nutrients
- detoxification problems.
Nutritional therapy respects each person's biochemical individuality. No single
diet or supplement is suitable for everyone.
Most common chronic health problems affect us at different levels. Nutritional
therapy, in combination with the following therapies, forms part of an
integrated mind-body approach to address health problems at all levels.
Biofeedback
Biofeedback is a technology-based health tool that builds what I call mind-body
skills: the ability to regulate your own physiological state by applying the
mind in a certain way.
Biofeedback monitors the body's changing physiology, and by feeding back the
information in real time, opens up the opportunity for greater awareness.
Because it's based on learning biofeedback is safe and produces lasting benefit.
Neurofeedback
A form of biofeedback, neurofeedback measures activity in the brain itself.
Neurofeedback improves cognitive performance and emotional balance, and is effective
therapy for neurological and developmental disorders including ADD, ADHD,
autistic spectrum, epilepsy and brain injury.
Stress Management Coaching
Most chronic health problems are made worse by stress. Stress management means looking at how patterns and styles of thinking, perceiving and paying
attention create problems, and conversely how changes can create solutions.
